Community Transportation Corps

Paving the Way for a Stronger Frankfort

The Community Transportation Corps is a leadership and service program for Frankfort High School students who want to make a real difference in their community while building skills and credentials for their future. Through this program, high school volunteers support WalkBike Frankfort's mission of creating safer, more connected streets for everyone.

  • As a Corps member, you'll work alongside community leaders to help younger kids bike safely, learn road skills, and build confidence. Depending on your interests, you can:

    • Teach Bike Safety School: Help lead our summer safety course for elementary and middle school students. You'll demonstrate helmet fitting, hand signals, and safe riding techniques.

    • Lead Bike Bus Routes: Ride alongside younger students on their morning commute to school. You'll be a mentor and role model, helping keep the group safe and encouraging young riders.

    • Support Bike Maintenance: Learn basic bicycle repair and help keep our fleet of loaner bikes rolling for families in need.

  • Joining the Community Transportation Corps provides real leadership experience that sets you apart.

    • Earn Verifiable Service Hours: Track your hours for school requirements, the Kentucky Governor's Service Award, and college applications.

    • Build a Standout Resume: Leading a group of younger riders, teaching safety skills, or fixing bikes are meaningful experiences that tell colleges and employers you are responsible, capable, and community-minded.

    • Receive Letters of Recommendation: WalkBike Frankfort leadership can provide personalized letters for college and scholarship applications upon request.

    • Gain Practical Skills: From bike maintenance to public speaking to group management, you'll develop skills that matter in any future career.

    • Make a Tangible Impact: You'll see the difference you make every time a young child rides to school with confidence because of your help.

  • Volunteers commit to approximately two hours per week during the fall and/or spring semesters. Flexible scheduling is available.
